PRUNE: At only 19-years-old, you are conquering the world. Talk to us about your career and when it began.
JORDYN: Thank you! I started dancing when I was really young which means I have been dancing practically my whole life. When I was around 10 years old, I started coming out to Los Angeles for dance auditions which eventually led to my mom and I moving there permanently. Living in LA, I was really inspired to start acting, singing and modeling all at once on top of dancing. Now my main focus is singing!
PRUNE: Your first original song, “I’m Dappin” was featured in the feature film, DANCE CAMP. Talk to us about how this song and film changed your career.
JORDYN: Having my own song featured in such a huge movie was definitely life changing for me. I am so thankful they chose my song to fit the movie and I actually got the chance to act in it as well. It was my first movie so it was definitely challenging even though I had a very small role. I was excited to be a part of DANCE CAMP and super happy I got the chance to do that!
PRUNE: With such a large following on social media in such a short time, do you ever feel the pressures of being a role model while also keeping up with trends?
JORDYN: I actually feel like I gradually got my following over the years. I started social media pretty young so I have grown up with it. I don’t feel any pressure usually because my fans are growing up with me and I am just being true to myself and what I want to be known for. My goal in life is to inspire and stay positive. Keeping up with trends is kind of something that happens naturally, especially when you can find out “what’s poppin” just from one scroll on Instagram. I also feel like style and fashion is going back in time so my mom helps me out, too!
PRUNE: Who do you personally look up to on social media?
JORDYN: I personally look up to Zendaya, Dove Cameron & Halsey. Not even just on social media but in multiple ways. They are all true to themselves and are inspiring, creative and smart.
PRUNE: Talk to us about your current projects and newest music.
JORDYN: I’m excited that my long awaited EP/Project is coming out very soon. It’s been over a year in the making and it’s finally coming! So get ready for new music, music videos, merch and a TOUR! I am a perfectionist and my first EP is going to be something to remember forever, and I need it to be 100% amazing, That’s why it’s taking much longer than anticipated.
PRUNE: Your single, “cut ‘em off” instantly gained traction with fans. What inspired this song? How has the response been?
JORDYN: “Cut ‘em off” is extremely important to me because I recorded this song when I was going through a rough patch with my ex. I was very blinded by love and I wouldn’t listen to anyone else that was on the outside seeing how toxic it was for me. When I recorded “cut ‘em off” it really triggered me that I was going to put out a song about being strong and knowing your worth, when I was still in a toxic relationship. So this song inspired me to get out of that and really love myself first.
PRUNE: Dream song collaboration?
JORDYN: I always say my dream song collaboration would be Halsey, Bruno mars or Miley Cyrus! I also love working with EDM producers so hopefully one day I can work with Marshmello, Zedd and The Chainsmokers!
PRUNE: You've opened up for major acts including Demi Lovato and DNCE. Biggest fangirl moment?
JORDYN: Opening up for DNCE and Demi Lovato was definitely life changing! I have had so much fun performing on such huge stages and I cannot wait to do more. I have for sure fan-girled meeting both of them, but my most fan girly moment so far was when I met Gigi Hadid! I love her and have always followed and looked up to her. I still haven’t met Halsey though.
PRUNE: Favorite song to dance to?
JORDYN: My favorite song to dance to changes daily but two of my all-time favorites are “How Deep is your Love” and “Feelin Myself” by Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj. I’ll probably have a new favorite song tomorrow, though.
PRUNE: Fun fact that fans don’t know about you?
JORDYN: One fun fact would be that I actually have 2 middle names... Jordyn Kaylee-Marie Jones! My mom couldn’t decide, I guess.
PRUNE: Where can we follow you on socials?
