”The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” — U.S. Constitution, Article II, section 4
President Andrew Johnson was Impeached in 1868, but he was acquitted by the Senate. President William J.Clinton was Impeached in 1999, but he too was acquittedby the Senate. As for Presidents, that’s it. Johnson was Impeached for removing his Secretary of War. Clinton was Impeached for making a false statement under oath about an affair.
Evangelical politicians were incredibly upset that as the party of Family Values a sitting President had an affair and lied about it; yet they voted for Donald J. Trump – the only candidate who fairly openly and regularly courted the likes of people such as Jeffrey Epstein, and who purchased the Miss Universe franchise and boasted that it gave him access to observe young females undressing. He is also the only candidate that had a Porn Star Hooker and Playboy Bunny Hooker paid off six-figure payouts - amounting to campaign finance violations - to remain silent about his adultery; so much for Family Values, but I digress. He is also the only candidate that America has become aware of that was openly assisted by Russia, and who praised Russia over America’s many Intelligence Agencies. He was also in a real estate development deal with Russia that he denied.
America is now in the midst of an Impeachment Inquiry. Not for sexual misconduct or for openly accepting Russia’s assistance, (Russia if you can hear me. . .”), or for praising Russia’s leader as great and powerful, but for subverting America’s form of governing. America’s “Checks and Balances” is the fundamental principle of American government and life in America, guaranteed by the Constitution, whereby each branch of the government (Executive, Judicial, and Legislative) has some measure of influence over the other branches and may block procedures of the other branches. Trump sees himself much more similar to leaders such as Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un, etc. He craves their power. He fails to acknowledge America’s three equal branches.
America’s Impeachment Inquiry is focused on the American President’s communications with the President of Ukraine and the withholding of $391 million dollars in aid that Congress appropriated at the beginning of 2019 for Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s military aggression which has caused between 12,500 to 16,000 deaths; against the backdrop of Russia having already annexed Crimea through military aggression. America’s President delayed the $391 million dollars in military aid for 9 months, and then asked the President of Ukraine to help dig up dirt on his American Presidential political opponent Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, implying Ukraine would not receive the aid Congress had pledged 9 months earlier, without the “favor.”
America’s President stated: “I would like you to do us a favor,” Trump asked of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. “I would like for you to find out what happened with this whole situation in Ukraine . . . There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that. So whatever you can do with the attorney general would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it … it sounds horrible to me.” Trump told the Ukraine President that Rudy and Barr would be calling him. Why would Trump’s private attorney contact the President of another country? Why would AG Barr need to enlist a foreign government to investigate a former Vice President?
In fact, the matter had already been investigated with a finding that neither Joe Biden, nor his son Hunter Biden had done anything wrong or illegal, but that didn’t stop Rudy or Barr. Yuriy Lutsenko, Ukraine’s former prosecutor general told the Los Angeles Times that President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, was “obsessed” with potential misconduct on the part of the former Vice President Joe Biden or his son, Hunter. Lutsenko said he repeatedly pushed back on Giuliani’s requests to investigate the Bidens.
Because the evidence established that Joe Biden had done the opposite of what Trump and Giuliani were accusing him of, while withholding $391 million dollars in aid, it was clear our American President had assisted Russia by holding up the military aid for 9 months and had essentially requested fabricated dirt on Trump’s political opponent. This is the most serious misuse of the Office of the Presidency in America ever. But why did the American President tell the Ukraine President that Rudy Giuliani would be contacting him;
Lutsenko told the Los Angeles Times that he informed Giuliani he had no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the Bidens and had no knowledge either had done anything illegal. He told Giuliani he would cooperate with any U.S. investigations but did not want Ukraine to be used in a “political vendetta.” Lutsenko said, "I do not want Ukraine to again be the subject of US presidential elections," adding, "Hunter Biden did not violate any Ukrainian laws — at least as of now, we do not see any wrongdoing.” There you have it, but that wasn’t good enough for Trump.
Impeachment. Impeachment comes from British constitutional history. The process evolved from the 14th century as a way for parliament to hold the king’s ministers accountable for their public actions.
Trump sees himself as a king, having achieved the unimaginable; even if it was with Russia’s direct interference in the 2016 American Presidential election. As Trump basks in the sweet smell of success, and misuses the Office of the Presidency for his personal gain, he has violated his sworn duty to uphold America’s Constitution. He conspired with a foreign government to investigate an American Vice President whom he knew had not violated any law, but for which Trump himself suggested something horrible should be found, in return for the release of America’s military aid that Congress had already directed. No doubt if there were to be something horrible turn up that Trump could use against his 2020 Presidential opponent Joe Biden, it would be a boon to his failing approval rating in America.
Treason is a word that has been thrown around by the President, yet it has a constitutional meaning. The giving of aid and comfort to their enemy is one form of constitutional treason. Trump’s holding up of $391 million dollars in military aid, for Ukraine to defend itself from Russia, America’s enemy, certainly gave Russia an advantage, comfort, and aid in their wrongful war against Ukraine. Yet Trump is accusing others of Treason for this Impeachment Inquiry.
Bribery includes the taking or the giving of a bribe for something in return. The question is whether the President offered a bribe, because that is now the constitutional question of the moment. Trump’s holding-up of the $391 million dollars in aid, in return for dirt on his opponentwhile giving Russia a military advantage put Ukraine in the untenable position of Trump terminating any further support or aid to Ukraine.
Trump’s sweet smell of success is now in the strong pungent smell of Treason, Bribery, Dereliction of Duty, Self-Dealing, Aiding America’s Enemy Russia by withholding military funds to Ukraine, and so much more. This isn’t about an affair, and not being honest about it. This isn’t about Trump’s Emoluments violations by accepting payments from countries to stay at his hotels and resorts, without ever showing up, creating a windfall for him as they seek his favor. This isn’t about fabricating an asinine excuse for why 5 Russians met at Trump Tower with Jared, Don Jr. & Manafort for alleged free Russian babies. This is about a full-blown (no pun intended) Constitutional crisis involving extortion, bribery and many millions being held up to assist Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine. Congress’ job is Impeachment.
