Introducing Luke Mitchell, our latest celebrity crush. You can catch this talented (and gorgeous) actor on CBS The Code doubling as a Marine Corp captain. Did we mention he has an Australian accent? Find out who inspires Mitchell as an actor and what show he would love to co star in next in this issue of C’est Prune!
PRUNE: How did your acting career begin?
LUKE: I started taking acting classes in my early 20’s as a way to get out of my comfort zone. I was a shy kid and in desperate need of self-improvement. The more I did, the better I got and the more I found out about myself. I ended up falling in love with the craft of acting in the process.
PRUNE: You started your professional career in the soap, Neighbours. How did the part of Chris Knight help you grow in success?
LUKE: That was my first time being on a professional set and I loved ever second of it. It made me realize that I did want to pursue a career in acting.
PRUNE: Talk to us about your biggest career highlights thus far and the moments that have stuck out to you.
LUKE: Getting “Neighbours” was big because it was my first professional acting gig and so it was kind of validation that I could do this thing. Booking “Home And Away” was massive for me because it taught me so much & put me on the map in the Aussie industry. “Tomorrow People” proved that I was capable of transitioning into the US industry. “SHIELD” proved that my first US job wasn’t a fluke. It put me on the map in the US & introduced me to the comic book world, for which I am forever grateful. “Blindspot” challenged me immensely as actor and also allowed me to live in NYC for the first time. And “The Code” has been the biggest gig of my career so far. A really wonderful experience that I will cherish for a long time.
PRUNE: How did you make the transition to American TV?
LUKE: My wife and I decided to move to the US straight after getting married. So we went from our honeymoon into our first pilot season and about 2 weeks in, I booked my first pilot which was The Tomorrow People and thankfully it got picked up to series... and then I was off and racing. I'm very grateful for that show!
PRUNE: Talk to us about your new show, The Code.
LUKE: The Code is about the Marine Corps and the lawyers who prosecute or defend their fellow marines. These guys are highly skilled, highly trained, highly intelligent and enormously passionate about the Marine Corps and their country.
PRUNE:You play Captain John Abraham. How did you prepare for this role?
LUKE: I read a great book called "One Bullet Away" by Nathaniel Fick which details what it takes to become a marine. How difficult training is and why it is so difficult and also what it's actually like in combat. It's a deep dive into the world of the Marine Corps and it really helped me wrap my head around just how good marines are. I also bulked up a little bit. I hit the gym a bit harder and put on about 13 pounds.

PRUNE: How do you relate to your character?
LUKE: Abe's essentially a good guy who cares a lot about his friends and family but he also works his ass off and really throws himself into his work. I like to think I have similar attributes.
PRUNE: If you could guest star in any current show, what would it be?
LUKE: I think it would be fun to guest star on NCIS. Our show has a compatible world to theirs, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to see Abe turn up. Otherwise it would be cool to come and play on something like This Is Us or even do another superhero show like Supergirl or Flash.

PRUNE: Who inspires you as an actor?
LUKE: So many people. Actors who keep pushing boundaries and pulling out surprising performances. Rami Malek and Bradley Cooper come to mind.
PRUNE: What can we expect from Luke Mitchell for the rest of 2019?
LUKE: Well I'm about to do a movie back home in Australia and then we'll see! I'm happy to take things one step at a time ; )
PRUNE: Where can we follow you on social media?
