Prune: At age 14 you already have an impressive resume. When did you first start acting?
Thomas: I started modeling as a baby, and my sister kind of got into it, so I got jealous of her. I wanted to do it, so I started acting in commercials around three or four.
Prune: You currently star in FOX’s The Mick. Talk to me about your character, Chip.
Thomas: Chip is super arrogant and entitled. He loves money, and he thinks money is the answer for everything. He’s not street smart at all, although he tries. That’s pretty much Chip.
Prune: The Mick was recently renewed for Season 2, which will release September 26th. What can we expect from Season 2?
Thomas: We start filming at the end of July and I’m just excited to get back to work. I went down to the writers’ room and they have really great and funny ideas.
Prune: You work alongside an accredited cast. What is the best advice you’ve received from a cast-mate?
Thomas: A lot of the actors on the show just tell me to make sure I’m having fun. When it’s not fun, it’s not worth it. Right now, I’m definitely having the time of my life.
Prune: You’ve appeared in some of TV’s most popular shows including American Horror Story and Greys Anatomy, as well as CBS Film’s Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. How have these roles impacted your career?
Thomas: Each role brings a new experience, and you take something with you when you move onto other projects. I’ve gotten to meet and work with so many great people. I feel very lucky that I’ve gotten to be part of so many great shows and worked with great actors.
Prune: Starring in The Mick has increased your fan base drastically. Has your everyday life changed with this success?
Thomas: Yes, my life has definitely changed from last year. I pretty much get recognized everywhere I go now, which is awesome, I like it a lot. I love being a part of a show, especially this one. The cast and crew connected so well from day one, and we’re just a big family. I miss them whenever I’m not working.
Prune: You just answered my next question, what is your favorite thing about starring in a TV show?
Thomas: *Laughs* Yeah, working with all of these people and having a fan base.
Prune: Your sister, Brielle, is also a successful actor. What is it like to have her by your side throughout this journey?
Thomas: It’s awesome. Brielle is great, she’s my best friend and has taught me so much in this business. Growing up she started before me, and she’s really acting-smart. I pick up stuff from her.
Prune: Outside of acting, what hobbies do you have?
Thomas: I’m a huge basketball fan – I could talk about it all day. I’m a huge Lakers and Knicks fan. I love skateboarding, and hanging out with friends as much as I can.
Prune: Time for fashion. What is your everyday style?
Thomas: I like to switch it up. Some days I like to be very casual. I’m always wearing black jeans, and it’s either a really cool hoodie, a really nice sneaker or tennis shoe, and recently denim. I’m slowly getting into denim and the slimmer look – the tight look. I’m transitioning from the big baggy hoodie to that.
Prune: What are your three favorite fashion trends at the moment?
Thomas: Definitely the denim. A big fashion icon for me is Russel Westbrook. He’s always crazy with his style. You can never go wrong with a nice tailored suit, that’s another one for me. Maybe a floral print suit for summer. The open shirt with nice shorts and loafers is another cool summer look.
Prune: Last but not least, fashion pruning. What current trend would you like to eliminate?
Thomas: I don’t like the no socks thing. Everybody needs socks. It feels uncomfortable, the ballerina socks we have to wear for these looks sometimes. It doesn’t look that great, at least not on me.
