PRUNE: You’re known for your roles in Jane the Virgin and Stuck in the Middle. Talk to me about being a star in two popular shows.

JENNA: The first time I worked on Jane the Virgin was the pilot. When I filmed the pilot, I didn’t really expect anything to come out of it. I didn’t know it was as big of a deal as it was when I filmed it, so it was very laid back. Stuck in the Middle, however, we filmed the pilot and I was starring in it, so we were hooked on it. It took us a while to find out if the it got picked up. When it did, I started crying immediately, I was so happy.

PRUNE: You also made your theater debut last year in the New York Spectacular. Talk to me about that experience.

JENNA: It was actually kind of random because it wasn’t something I had wanted to do all of my life. It wasn’t my dream. They flew me out to New York to audition for Mia Michaels. I flew back to California and found out that I had booked it. I was there for three and a half months. It’s weird going from no theater to the biggest indoor theater in the world, but it was one of the best experiences I ever had in my life.

PRUNE: Aside from being a TV star, you have a huge following on social media, Live.ly and Musical.ly. How have these apps shaped your career?

JENNA: It gives the fans a better chance to know me. A lot of my fans are from everywhere, so I wont always have events where Im near them and I can meet them. It’s cool that I can connect with them over social media and talk to them. I think that really helps my social media, because that’s where my fans come in and I can really connect with them.

PRUNE: Not only are you a talented actress, but you sing as well. So many Disney stars have transitioned to full time music artists. Do you see that in your future?

JENNA: I don’t see that in my future. I really love acting and one of my biggest goals is to win an Oscar one day. I’ll probably stay down this path, but you never know.

PRUNE: Being a Disney star is a dream. Did you grow up watching the channel before starring in Stuck in the Middle? What was your favorite show?

JENNA: I loved Disney Channel. I had a bunch of favorite shows, Wizards of Waverly Place, That’s So Raven, and Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Those were my top three. Being on a Disney Channel show was one of my child dreams, especially once I became an actress. I told my parents I was going to be on Disney Channel one day, and they were like “OK Jenna, slow your roll” and blew me off. The fact that I’m here and doing it now, I’m very proud of myself.

PRUNE: You come from a family of six children. How supportive have they all been throughout this journey?

JENNA: When I first started acting, they thought it was cool but I don’t think they realized. They thought it was on a smaller scale than it was. They only really started to think it was crazy once they found out the things I was working on like Insidious: Chapter 2 and Iron Man 3. When I did Disney, they got super excited because they’re at the age where they love Disney Channel. They’re very proud and very supportive of me, but they still make me do the dishes when I get home.

PRUNE: What hobbies do you have outside of acting?

JENNA: I love soccer and going swimming. We have a trampoline in our backyard so we like jumping on that. I love having pool parties and sleepovers with my friends. I love to get out and take a hike.

PRUNE: If you could star in the remake of any movie, what movie would it be and who would you play?

JENNA: Man on Fire. Dakota Fanning. When I was younger, I watched Dakota Fanning a lot. She was one of my biggest inspirations. When my parents were away at work, they didn’t know I was watching Man on Fire. My older sister had it on and I snuck over and watched it with her. I want to be like Dakota Fanning and I want to work with Denzel Washington one day. If I could do that, it would be incredible.

PRUNE: Who is your celebrity crush?

JENNA: Romeo Beckham, and he’s my age, so you never know.

PRUNE: What is your favorite song at the moment?

JENNA: Love by Kendrick Lamar. It just came out, and I’m obsessed.
